XERF -Skin Tightening

We are proud to present XERF- a next-generation non-invasive skin tightening treatment by Cynosure/Lutronic that uses multifrequency monopolar radiofrequency (RF) energy to tighten skin, stimulate collagen and elastin, and lift tissue — without needles, numbing, or downtime. XERF is versatile. While it’s most used on the face and neck for lifting and tightening, it can also be applied to various body areas including- cheeks, jawline, jowls, brows, arms, thighs, abdomen, and more.

Key Features & How It Works

  • Dual-frequency RF (6.78 MHz + 2 MHz): This allows the device to deliver energy at multiple skin depths — shallow, middle, and deep — for more thorough collagen remodeling.

  • Wave Fit™ Pulse technology + Integrated Cryogen Delivery (ICD Cooling): Designed to regulate energy, maintain safe skin surface temperatures, provide comfort, and avoid burns or discomfort.

  • Real-time feedback & customizable settings: The device monitors impedance and allows adjustments in depth and intensity (several levels/depths) to adapt to each patient’s skin profile.

  • Penetration to SMAS and lower tissue levels: Histologic studies show XERF can affect deeper supportive structures, which helps with lifting effects, not just skin tightening.

Benefits

  • Visible tightening, lifting, and improved skin firmness and tone.

  • Immediate mild improvement often felt/seen, plus continued improvement over the following weeks and months as collagen builds.

  • Minimal discomfort, no needles, no numbing and very little downtime. You can often resume normal activities right away.

  • Customizable for different skin types and areas. Because of the adjustable depth settings and energy levels, treatment can be tailored.

Why Expertise Matters (XERF)

  • Because XERF is powerful and works deeply, an injector’s expertise makes a big difference in safely getting good, natural results. Here’s why:

  • Precise Anatomical Mapping & Customization
Knowing where skin is thinner vs thicker, where deeper layers like SMAS are accessible, and where nerves, glands, or delicate structures lie is crucial. A skilled provider can select the right depth, intensity, and treatment pattern based on the patient’s facial / body anatomy, skin type, and aging pattern.

  • Managing Energy Delivery & Safety
Mistakes with RF devices (too much energy, wrong depth, inadequate cooling) can lead to burns, over-tightening, or uneven results. A provider trained with advanced RF systems understands how to modulate wave fit pulses, monitor skin impedance, maintain surface coolness, and avoid complications.

  • Artistic Judgment & Visual Balance
Skin tightening is not just about “tightening” — it’s about restoring proportion, shape, and harmony: lifting jowls without making cheeks look hollow, lifting neck without overly pulling brows, etc. Expertise matters so the results look natural, not overdone.

  • Long-Term Planning & Realistic Expectations
Because results build gradually, the provider must guide patients through what to expect: how many treatments, when the full effect will emerge, how to maintain results, and what adjunctive treatments might help (e.g. skincare, sun protection, possible combinations with other modalities).

  • Technology Mastery & Best Practices
XERF is new and has specific features (dual frequency, cryogen cooling, depth settings, real-time impedance feedback). Being trained on these features maximizes the machine’s potential. Providers who train others (like Dr. Hakim might, if she masters it and teaches) will be more up to date on safety protocols, tips, and subtleties.

  • Patient Comfort & Safety
Because one of the big selling points of XERF is “no numbing, no needles, no downtime,” maintaining comfort without relaxing anesthesia means the provider must be very attuned to patient feedback, skin response, heat sensation, and must adapt energy appropriately. A trainer/provider who’s done many treatments will better handle that balance.

The Science Behind XERF

1. Energy Source:

  • XERF uses monopolar radiofrequency (RF) energy delivered at two key frequencies: 6.78 MHz and 2 MHz.

  • 6.78 MHz: Penetrates more superficially into the dermis to remodel collagen and elastin where wrinkles and texture are most visible.

  • 2 MHz: Penetrates deeper into the dermis and subdermal structures (including the SMAS layer), where true tissue tightening and lifting occur.

2. Delivery Method:

  • Wave Fit™ Pulse Technology: Modulates RF pulses into waves, reducing energy spikes and allowing more uniform heating of tissue.

  • Integrated Cryogen Delivery (ICD Cooling): Simultaneously cools the epidermis while RF penetrates deeper, protecting surface skin and improving comfort.

  • Real-Time Impedance Monitoring: The system continuously adjusts to the skin’s electrical resistance to keep energy delivery safe and consistent.

3. Biologic Effect:

  • Collagen Denaturation: Heat causes existing collagen fibers to contract and tighten.

  • Neocollagenesis & Neoelastogenesis: The controlled injury stimulates fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin over the following weeks to months.

  • Structural Remodeling: Because of its ability to reach the SMAS layer (the layer lifted in surgical facelifts), XERF can provide a lifting effect that is deeper than traditional RF skin tightening.

4.  Most Advanced Technology:

  • Unlike older treatments like Thermage or Ultherapy that target just one layer, XERF uses dual-frequency radiofrequency energy to treat both the surface and deep structural layers of the skin, including the SMAS — the same layer lifted in surgery. Its cooling system and real-time feedback make treatments more comfortable and safer, while delivering more consistent results.
